Who needs to take
this test?
The BTLPT is required for bilingual educators in Texas. Bilingual teachers must pass the Core
Subjects EC-6 or Core Subjects 4-8 exam, the Bilingual Education Supplemental
exam, the BTLPT, and the PPR. This test
is not for Spanish teachers.
What about the
Generalist tests?
The Generalist EC-6, Generalist 4-8, Bilingual Generalist
EC-6, and Bilingual Generalist 4-8 will be offered through the end of August,
2015. The Bilingual Generalist EC-6 combines
the Generalist EC-6 and Bilingual Education Supplemental into one exam, and the
Bilingual Generalist 4-8 combines the Generalist 4-8 and Bilingual Education
Supplemental into one exam. Keep in mind
the state is phasing those exams out, and anyone who passes a Generalist test
or Bilingual Generalist test must complete all certification requirements by
August 2017 to earn their certificate using one of those exams.
What Does the Exam
Cover?
The BTLPT assesses your knowledge of all areas of Spanish,
including reading and listening comprehension, as well as oral and written
proficiency.
When is the Test
Offered?
The BTLPT is offered in testing windows. Visit the ETS website and download the flyer
for the Limited Administration CAT test dates.
Registration has closed for the April/May exam. The deadline to register for the July/August
exam is July 10, 2015, but test centers usually fill up before the deadline.
Where is the Test
Offered?
ETS has test centers throughout the state of Texas, as well
as locations throughout the United States.
There are also some test centers in Mexico and one in Puerto Rico, but
not all exams are offered at the locations in Mexico and Puerto Rico. When you register on ETS, you will be able to
view a list of locations.
How Much Does the
Test Cost?
All TExES exams cost $120.
